![]() This means you get to see the content you might like, according to what you’ve watched, liked, or followed before, instead of seeing posts from people you follow, as you do on most of the other social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.). That content is curated by the algorithm of the app. ![]() On TikTok, when you open the app, the first thing you’ll see is the “for you” section with recommendations. One of the things that makes TikTok so addictive is also what makes it different from other social networks. On Musical.ly, you had the choice to upload a song from your device and share it over the app.Īnd so it happened: The company that owned Douyin, ByteDance, bought Musical.ly, merging both of the platforms’ best features and data into a single app that was renamed TikTok for the global audience (although, fun fact, in China, it’s still known as Douyin). It was similar to Douyin, except that it was more focused on lip-synching videos, which were also from 15 seconds to 1 minute long. TikTok, known as Douyin in China (which in Chinese means “vibrating sound”), is a social network focused on vertical video format, where users can upload short videos from 15 seconds to 1 minute (although in less than a year, it has expanded twice up to 3 and 10 minutes – a trend that’s unlikely to stop).Īt the same time that TikTok came into popularity, there was another app called Musical.ly around. Charting TikTok’s origins will help us to understand why it has become such a dominant force in music. Additionally, the app allows you to add your sounds and music into the background, as well as giving you a ton of effects and filters to play with.īut let’s go back a bit to when the now-global phenomenon was just a rising, brand new app from China. You know the basics: TikTok is an app where you can upload short videos, share your lifestyle, dance, sing along / lip-sync, and do pretty much whatever you can fit into a 15-second video. Put some music on, and let’s dig into how TikTok operates and handles the complexity of dealing with music copyright to give users the best possible experience. Grab your mobile / adjust your laptop screen (or whatever you’re reading on). These and other questions will be answered in the article below.
That’s not to say there aren’t good Trek games out there, Bridge Crew and Star Trek: Online come to mind as two good examples, but nothing has ever quite captured the diplomacy and moral questions that are at its core. Many of them have attempted to capture the essence of the various films and TV shows that fans have enjoyed for decades, but in most instances it has boiled down to the action-oriented aspects of the franchises. Some reactions would alternate between being either underplayed or completely over-the-top, which we can imagine detracting from more serious moments during a full-length narrative experience. There have been several video game iterations of Gene Roddenberry’s prolific Star Trek franchise over the years. You’ll be staring at a lot of faces during conversations, and, frankly, the animations seemed unfinished and downright goofy at times. Unlike many of Telltale’s titles, however, Resurgence aims for realistic, rather than stylised, humanoid character models. In essence, the game is structured like a television episode with an A and B story.įrom the demo, it’s hard to say how anything in the game not related to choosing conversation paths will pan out. It was laid-back Trek, and, as it proceeded, interacted with the drama happening on the planet where negotiations were taking place. ![]() While doing this, the engineer schmoozed with another officer about his ambitions in Starfleet, and his tense relationship with his Vulcan supervisor, and then had to do a small mapping puzzle. I aimed an analogue stick and used the triggers to accelerate or decelerate, and an asteroid never really came close to hitting me. The second scenario of the preview returns to engineer Diaz, and allows players to slowly manoeuvre a shuttle around asteroids, which felt rather mindless and low-stakes. There’s no need for ridiculous Quantic Dream-level quick-time events, but waiting four minutes to press a button seems like it would feel tedious after a while. The entire scene was played using button prompts placed within cutscenes, but it’s a reminder that choose-your-own-adventure games of this style should figure out a way to make these scenes more dynamic. The scene as a whole indicated that there would be some big alliances, choices, and hopefully some more mature topics explored, as the Federation is not portrayed as a neutral party. I was unable to tell how significant my choices would be, though at the end of the scene, Spock suggested something to the effect that we would have another chance to make said decisions. We cringed when we chose not to show deference to the queen during an important peace negotiation, who in turn aimed a disdainful frown in the direction of our Starfleet officer. As Rydek, you’re responding to questions from the Hotari queen about who the Federation is aligning with in the dispute, and also trying to defend – or allow – accusations that the Starfleet Federation is only there negotiating in the first place as an interested party with imperialist designs on the mine. In this scenario, you play another new character in the Star Trek universe – Commander Rydek – who, along with Spock, goes to negotiate control of a dilithium mine between two races: the Hotari, and the Alydians. The slow-paced and dialogue-heavy (both good for Trek fans) opening chapters we got to play showed off a number of interesting choices, which led to some strong character reactions.Īfter a brief introduction of a new character – engineer Carter Diaz – and his relationship to his Vulcan superior, the preview follows a lengthy story chapter involving a second character. Tonally, the pacing and focus on workplace-and-alien drama and decision-making exudes the tone of old-school Trek, and will have fans of classic Trek episodes jumping around more than Q. ![]()

If you are unsure if physical therapy is right for you, please contact your nearest JAG-ONE Physical Therapy to discuss your treatment options. When deciding what the right course of action is for you please remember that not all states allow direct access to physical therapy or have specific guidelines that must be followed. Physical therapists are well-qualified, both through formal education and clinical training, to evaluate a patient’s condition, assess their physical therapy needs and, if appropriate, safely and effectively treat the patient. If something is bothering you, why wait when you may have the freedom to visit a physical therapist and begin your treatment plan. Other states allow a certain time frame, such as New Jersey which allows for 30 days, or number of physical therapy visits before a doctor referral is necessary to continue. For example, some states to include New York, allow direct access only to physical therapists who have been practicing for three years or more. It should also be noted that many states have rules and regulations built into the legislation that governs direct access and the practice of physical therapy. If a referral is necessary, this finding will be discussed with the patient along with a discussion about the appropriate medical professional that a follow up is needed with. For injuries that may fall outside of this scope or need more invasive medical treatment, physical therapists are also trained to recognize when further medical attention is needed. A few common examples include, ligament sprains, muscle or tendon strains, tendonitis and nerve compression disorders. muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, discs, and other supporting structures). Additionally, we all are aware that healthcare can be expensive. This delayed access allows for pain and stiffness to set in or further damage to occur which will only lengthen one’s road to recovery. Often, we find that patient access to treatment and rehabilitation can be delayed by a week or more depending on how long it takes for them to be seen by their doctor and gain access to a referral. How Does Direct Access Benefit You?ĭirect access to a physical therapist, whom specialize in musculoskeletal and movement disorders, can put you on an accelerated road to recovery by allowing you to begin a treatment plan right away. By allowing direct access within New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, physical therapists within these states are now recognized as a top choice when it comes to choosing a healthcare professional to manage musculoskeletal and movement disorders in all patient populations. However, the tides are changing, and in some states, to include New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) along with their statewide associations have lobbied successfully to help change the law to allow patients direct access to physical therapy services. Historically, in the United States, each state’s practice act mandated that for physical therapy services to be granted by insurance, a referral from a licensed physician, such as an orthopedist, podiatrist, etc., would be needed first. Patients get better, faster thanks to state policies enabling direct access to physical therapists Direct access, which is also known as self-referral, refers to the ability that a patient can be evaluated and treated by a physical therapist of their choice without the need for a referral or prescription from a doctor. Street users usually don’t want to worry about it and pay the $18 for a set of rings. Racers will typically squat and use their knees to hold the wheel roughly centered while they spin the lugs on. Racers will often skip the hubcentric rings because they do not want to take the chance of them dislodging and getting stuck on a hot hub during a fast trackside tire change on race day. Their job is to roughly center the wheel while the user tightens the lugs. They are NOT a load bearing item which is why they are typically made from nylon reinforced plastic. We sell hubcentric rings for those that want them. Please consult with us if you have any questions on appropriate offset for your intended use. Moreover, you will notice offsets in our wheel section of 35mm, 30mm, etc., and those are generally for race application though many street users also use the more aggressive choices. Note that there is a popular book on the Mazda Miata still sold that indicates the factory offset is 45mm only…that book is a decade out of date and should be discarded. For the 1990-2005 Mazda Miata the factory offsets are 45mm for 14 inch wheels and 40mm for factory 15s, 16s, and 17s. To the extent that a rim’s mounting plane is offset from that zero position, that offset is measured in millimeters for Japanese cars. If the rim is 6 inches wide, and the mounting surface of that rim (backside of the bolt holes), is 3 inches from either outside edge, that rim has a 0 offset. Feel free to consult with us on tire choices. Spreading that same 205/50/15 onto wider 15×7.5 or 15×8 wheels will give even MORE performance for the same tire size (more crisp turn-in response, more stable contact patch, more tire on the ground, etc), with a downside of more ride harshness from the more vertical sidewalls. For the user planning track racing or autocross work we recommend a 15×7 and 205/50/15 as the minimum setup. For the pure street user the 15 inch size helps keep unsprung weight low and the user can select from a wide selection of 195/50/15 and 205/50/15 sizes. Our preference for 1990-2005 Mazda Miatas is 15 inch rims for both street, autocross, and race track use. We use 17 inch rims for both street and race track duty to keep the unsprung weight as light as possible (though for various reasons of tire availability we use as large as 18×10 for autocross. The brakes on the 2006 are too large to accommodate 15 inch rims which means that 16 inch rims are the minimum (and most 16 inch wheels will NOT clear the rear suspension links). The 2006 and newer Mazda MX5 has a more sophisticated suspension but the user seeking to improve performance should nonetheless remember that weight is still the enemy. Here, we weigh every rim we sell and report the actual weights in the product listing for each wheel. It is VERY COMMON to find other vendors selling 15 pound rims yet telling their customers those rims are 12 pounds and lower. Because we actually weigh the wheels we sell, our weights will often be higher than what the wheel manufacturers list on their own websites. Note that there is a lot marketing hype out there and few distributors bother to actually check the advertised weights of the wheels they sell, relying instead on exaggerated or atypical claims in the marketing materials produced by the wheel manufacturers. Don’t accept the representation from the average tire shop that the rim they are trying to sell you is “light.” Know exactly what the true weight is before you buy! We have had too many customers call us only AFTER their purchase of 15-20+ pound wheels elsewhere asking how their Miata can be fixed now that it rides rough, crashes over potholes, and is no longer fun to drive! Asking your Mazda Miata suspension to lift 15 to 20 pound rims with each bump and still feel fun to drive is like asking your own body to run with ankle weights and still be fast–heavy rims will hurt your Mazda Miata’s performance just like the ankle weights would hurt yours. The lighter the better! We sell 15 inch rims that are under 10 pounds and most users can feel a change as small as 3 pounds of unsprung weight per corner.īuying wheels over 15 pounds will seriously degrade the ride and performance of your Mazda Miata. The factory designed and sold it with factory rims that were as light as 10 pounds each! Our STRONG advice for owners of 1990-2005 Mazda Miatas is to only buy similarly light wheels and avoid any rims that are over 15 pounds each. The 1990 through 2005 Mazda Miata is VERY sensitive to unsprung weight. Enkei 15×8 PFO1 on MazdaSpeed Miata Rim Weight |
